Many students from the Commerce stream dream of wearing the uniform and serving the nation through the National Defence Academy (NDA). But a common question always arises — “Can a Commerce student join NDA?”
The answer is YES, you absolutely can — but it depends on which wing of the NDA you want to join.

🇮🇳 Understanding NDA and Its Three Wings

Before we jump into eligibility, it’s important to understand how NDA works.
Through the NDA exam, candidates are selected for three prestigious wings of the Indian Armed Forces:

  1. Indian Army

  2. Indian Navy

  3. Indian Air Force

Now, each of these wings has different educational requirements, especially concerning subjects like Physics and Mathematics.

🪖 1. Indian Army – Best Option for Commerce Students ✅

If you’re from a Commerce or Arts background, the Indian Army is the perfect path for you through NDA.
You are eligible to apply for the Army wing even without Mathematics or Science in your 12th standard.

✅ Eligibility Criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Passed 12th standard from any recognized board (Commerce/Arts/Science).

  • Age Limit: 16.5 to 19.5 years.

Once selected, you’ll undergo training at NDA, Khadakwasla, and later join the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun for further training.

⚓ 2. Indian Navy – Not Eligible for Pure Commerce Students ❌

  • Must have studied Physics and Mathematics in 12th standard.

  • Commerce-only students do not qualify for this wing.
